Based in Charleston, South Carolina Mark is the designer and partner of Iberian Land Rovers. As the US director of global sales he is the point of contact for purchasing a newly restored vehicle.
Who knew that I would have such a deep seated enjoyment for old Land Rovers. I was a 4 year old sitting in the back of a Series 2a while my dad and some guys helped pull a stuck car with a trailer out of the muck on the eastern shore of England. It wasn’t until many years later when I went back as an adult to the country from which I was born that I fell in love with the brand new 2001 Defender. After test driving it I knew I had to get one of my own. Sadly at that time it was impossible to import to America. I settled with the Old Toyota Landcruiser and having found some success in my photography business allowed me to afford to have one restored to the level of quality that I had grown accustomed to. After spending massive amounts of money on three Land Cruisers I found a partially restored 65 Land Rover Series lla. I think that boxy simple design that was planted in my soul many years before began to grow. I restored the rest of the car myself in my spare time. After a few months it was finished, and was absolutely perfect in every way. I sold the Land Cruisers and commissioned 2 Defenders to be restored in England and shipped to South Carolina. The 1983 Land Rover 110 had just turned 25 years old and legal to import. As soon as the trucks arrived in the country I knew within hours what needed to be upgraded and changed. This began the small side business I had of buying, commissioning restorations and then finishing the upgrades myself. I discovered that there were many guys just like me. I was tired of the same old cars to choose from. I was not into muscle cars. I disliked jeeps because everyone and their brother owned one. The Toyotas just didn’t have the simple sophistication that appealed to me. But the Defender. My appreciation was growing daily and I could not stop thinking about them.
It wasn’t long after this that I started a company dedicated to full frame off restorations and modern amenity upgrades to bring what I thought was antiquated into the new era of power trucks. In 2018 I parted ways with the popular brand that I had started. But the itch to create never died.
Fast forward to 2022. The opportunity came for me to partner with a prominent EU builder. After purchasing the first two “Iberian” level trucks I knew I had something very special to bring to market.
With my successful photography and design career I take care of the look and feel of Iberian. I enjoy speaking with others who have the same love for these very cool trucks.
If you would like to know more about owning an Iberian Defender, I would love to hear from you.
